January 2005 saw a new addition to the family.  I missed having a chocolate lab since 1996 and the time was right.  I found Thibeaux at the Euless Animal Shelter.  He was about two years old and couldn't be nicer.  He gets along well with people, kids, dogs, and even cats.  He's a great dog and we are meant for one another.  (Many thanks to  DFW Lab Rescue for tipping me off about him.) Widget was a loner and didn't care much for dogs or cats but he loved people.  He had six toes on each foot.  He liked to pick on Thibeaux and would bat his nose if Thibeaux got too close.

Widget passed away unexpectedly early in the morning on Thursday, October 30, 2008.  He was not injured and had been healthy hours before so I'm guessing he got into something toxic outside.  He had become quite a loving cat and I miss him terribly.  Rest in peace, Widget.

Thibeaux is mildly curious about cats but for the most part he ignores them and wishes they would do the same to him.  Most oblige but some are entirely unafraid of Thibeaux and even seem to like him.  To describe Thibeaux as mellow is an understatement.
Frieda (2003 - 2006) Frieda was a hooded fancy rat with ruby eyes I had since she was a pup.  How did a rat survive in a house full of cats?  Frieda had her own room.  She lived in the master bathroom, a cat- and dog-free zone.  In a cage, of course.

Frieda passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2006.  She was just shy of 3-years old, about average lifespan for a pet rat.  Frieda was in good health until her last week.  She died of old age and, mercifully, the end was quick.  Rest in peace, Frieda.  We miss you.

That's all the pets I've got.  That's plenty, n'est-ce pas?
